The Bridge of Children Fundraiser
When used properly, Facebook could be a great resource. I "met" Andrea Graham on FB. She and I have a lot in common, the greatest being we are both Haitian. Not too long after my crowning, Andrea reached out to me asking if I would attend and speak at "The Bridge of Children" Fundraiser in PA on October 25th. Of course I was more than delighted. It warms my heart when Haitians do work in Haiti.
The Bridge of Children is an orphanage in Haiti that was founded by a native, Elmyre Joachim. The orphanage started out with six girls, now it has 29 girls. The fundraiser was to help them raise money for a van. They are unable to take all the girls out at the same time
My husband (my official photographer) and myself set out on a little road trip to PA. When we arrived we were welcomed by Andrea with open arms. It was nice to meet her in person. The whole executive board were welcoming. The night was filled with good Haitian food, a live band, four moving spoken word artists, and a movie made about the orphanage. Without a doubt, the founder of the orphanage, Elmyre Joachim, loves the girls in the orphanage and they in turn love her. Elmyre is sweet, genuine and giving. She reminds of me of my Aunt Jackie who endears people to her.
The most moving part of the afternoon, to me, was when we skyped with the girls. Ms. Joachim asked the girls to sing a song for us. They sang a song in Kreyol (also translated in English) that I love!
🎶I see the Lord, high lifted up, seated on the throne of my life🎶 (2x)
🎶You are hooooooly! (3x) Seated on the throne of my life🎶
I almost cried when I heard them sing that song. To hear those girls sing that song, trusting that GOD is in control of their lives despite their circumstances, moved me. Even now as I sit here writing this, I am teary. So I have decided I want to help. I don't know how yet but GOD willing, I will help!
Thank you Andrea and the executive staff of The Bridge of Children for having us at their event.
